Stanley Park
Stanley Park is a public park that borders the downtown area of Vancouver within British Columbia, Canada and is almost completely surrounded by the waters that comprise Vancouver Harbour and English Bay. The park is a landmark in the city's history and was one of the first areas that was explored by the city. It was a popular place for indigenous people for centuries prior to when it was colonized by British at the time of 1858. The park's name comes from Lord Stanley of Preston who served as the Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893. His time as Governor General was a period when he helped to establish a number of important institution of the arts located in Vancouver and included Stanley Park. It was originally planned as a park of temperance, in which people could go to relax and enjoy a picnic away from the drunkenness and rowdiness in the urban.
