Stanley Park
Stanley Park is a public park that lies along the downtown of Vancouver located in British Columbia, Canada and is almost entirely surrounded by water bodies in Vancouver Harbour along with English Bay. The park is a landmark in the city's history and was among the first areas that was explored by the city. The park was used by indigenous peoples for centuries before it was Colonized by the British after 1858. The park's name is derived from Lord Stanley of Preston who served as the governor general of Canada from 1888 until 1893. His time as Governor General was a period when the Governor General helped to establish numerous important institution of the arts within Vancouver including Stanley Park. The park was originally conceived as a park of temperance, where people could come to enjoy picnics and escape from the rowdiness and drunkenness within the cities. But over time, it has become one of Vancouver's most sought-after tourist destinations with more than 8 million people visiting every year.
